The first house in a Zulu village is where all the unmarried girls live. The welcome or reject visitors, charm invading men of other tribes and alert the warriors of the village of impending danger.
The witch doctor house is located in in front of the cow pen. He consults the ancestors through the cows for information.
The Grandmother is the most powerful person in the village. She determines who is infertile in a marriage and fix it. Who is unfaithful. Teaches the girls how to perform their womanly duties among other things. Her house, bed and chamber pot are holy.
If someone is guilty of witchcraft, stealing or rape, they are escorted up the hill and mandatorily encouraged to jump by the worriers. If the fall isn't successful the worriers will complete it. The corps is left on the hill so that spirit wont come back in the village.
